Project Description



The purpose of this project is to develop a new fast and high throughput screening test using MALDI mass spectrometry on COVID-19 positive patients. This is based on the possibility that that this test may also identify COVID-19 patients at risk of developing a severe form of the disease, so that care can be adjusted as early as possible.


To be able to test a large part of the population rapidly and at a low cost, and to identify COVID-19 patients likely to develop a severe form of the disease, by looking for the presence of enzymes used as markers for the virus and inflammation of patients, by measuring the divide of their specific substrates. MALDI-TOF type mass spectrometry would allow the performance of more than 1,000 analysis points, which would make it possible to screen a very large number of patient samples per day, and would show the presence or absence of a viral infection and the degree of inflammation and pneumopathy risk as a result.
